Mercedes-Maybach Shows Off Fashionably Dressed S 680 by Virgil Abloh

About a year ago, we had a first look at the Mercedes-Maybach S 680, which restored a V12-powered ultra-sedan to the Merc catalog. The company had trimmed the Maybach sedan lineup to one model in the V8-powered S 580, dropping the V12-powered S 650 and V8-powered S 560 at the end of the last decade.

The S 680’s 621 available horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque make it one virile executive sedan; that a car as heavy as this one can make the 0-60 run in 4.4 seconds is something of a coup. To give it looks that match its power, Mercedes-Maybach worked with designer Virgil Abloh to create a unique, 150-example production run of the model. This spring, the edition was announced by Mercedes as a special ‘legacy car’ associated with the company’s Project Maybach.

The Maybach by Virgil Abloh features an exterior color scheme that takes a different approach to Maybach two-tone: the lower section of the S 680 is painted a deep beige color, while the upper section is finished in obsidian black. Inside the car, the two-tone scheme continues in nappa leather; perhaps more eye-catching is the edition-specific MBUX layout.

The Maybach by Virgil Abloh S 680 will be available online at Off-White, Farfetch and Maybach Icons of Luxury stores, and accompanied by a companion ‘capsule collection’ fashion line.
