The Manhattan residence of media mogul Rupert Murdoch entered the open market recently, with a chaser. The high-rise properties are the cappers of a prominent Flatiron building, One Madison, and can be purchased as a set for $78 million.

The crown jewel of the pair is a 6,850 sq. ft. triplex penthouse, the last word in One Madison’s 60-floor, 53-unit condo. The property contains five bedrooms and six baths, along with a shared living area that culminates in a soaring great room with two-story glass walls overlooking the city skyline; the sense of space in the room is enhanced by the second-level wraparound gallery that overlooks it, and the sculptural floating staircase that accesses it (the unit also contains an elevator). Many of Manhattan’s landmark buildings can be seen from the residence.

A corner kitchen with a linear layout, a dining room with an LED-impregnated tray ceiling and an office with a wall of bookshelves are adjacent to the great room. The unit’s guest bedrooms and staff quarters occupy most of the middle level, while the master suite is on the top floor. A wraparound terrace adds about 600 sq. ft. to the unit’s total living area.

The second property adds another level to the whole; it’s a 3,310 sq. ft. penthouse unit with three bedrooms and four baths. It features a wide-open living area that incorporates a kitchen and dayroom; all three bedrooms feature corner glass and private baths, with the master receiving a freestanding soaking tub.

Murdoch’s recent real state transactions include the purchase of a ranch in Montana for $200 million. The Murdoch family’s net worth is north of $20 billion, according to Forbes.
