Katy Perry Looking to Part With Designer Residence in Beverly Hills for $19.5M

Back in the spring of 2017, pop star Katy Perry happily plunked down about $18 million for this 1950s home on 1.16 acres in the Beverly Hills Post Office area.

A little history. In the wake of this purchase, up for sale went the singer’s 1950s Hollywood Hills estate with an asking price of $9.45 million, ultimately letting it go in the winter of 2019 for $9 million. In the interim she picked up a secondary house near her newer BHPO home, presumably intending to use it for visiting relatives from her family or that of husband, actor Orlando Bloom. But she put it up for sale again in late 2020, hoping for $8 million, and sold it last spring for $7.5 million.

Throughout the whirlwind of transactions, the modern-meet-traditional with Regency touches in BHPO has remained, until now. This month, the property returned to the open market. Perry has tagged it at $19.45 million, a remarkably reasonable ask for a substantial estate in BHPO after about five years of ownership.

Renovations conducted to the 5,427 square-footer fall mainly in the decorative camp…although a new treehouse can be spotted in the backyard. New ivy adorns the façade and the entry; the Woolfian oval windows flanking the latter whisper a touch of the geographically-specific Regency style that afflicted certain L.A.-area homes during the period.

As it stands, the home’s interiors are a modern twist on Regency: bright, warm and uncluttered by stylized ornament, and off-white but for a few cases of the blues. In the shared spaces, the library gets the more intense color, a soft but introspective blue, while the salon’s cabinetry is nearer to periwinkle. The shade is nearly reprised in the master bedroom although the master’s is more soothing than softly thought-provoking. The kitchen is another highlight; its modest cottage charm comes off very well.

Amenities on the property include a gym and a pool with an elevated spa and patio. The estate’s generous green spaces are perhaps the more appealing amenity on the property.

Perry has sold over 140 million records; her music’s also racked up over one billion streams on Spotify. She currently hosts a concert residency in Las Vegas called Play. The third leg of the show starts on May 27.
