After Purchasing Malibu Home for $177M, Billionaire Marc Andreessen Gobbles Up Another for $44.5M

Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of venture capitalist firm Andreessen Horowitz, spent a bit more of the proceeds from his legendarily successful tech investments and, to close out the winter of 2022, picked up another flashy home in Malibu down the beach from another estate he picked up only a few months ago.

Last autumn, Andreessen paid womenswear mogul Serge Azria and his wife Florence $177 million for their 6.62-acre, thirteen-building estate overlooking Paradise Cove and deeded with access to its beach. The architectural heavyweight of a main house on the compound, which was completed in 1980, neatly balances extraordinarily sentiment-free warmth with fashion-subverting cerebral overtones; it is an exceptional example of a modern with postmodern sympathies.

Andreessen’s newer acquisition, which came with a $44.5 million price tag according to The Wall Street Journal, appears to be a fresh rebuild. Far from the usual spec-built leviathan vacuously decorated with a veneer of high-dollar materials, the house is a worthy companion to the fellow’s larger estate down the street. Its interiors are expressed in white oak, and there’s a great deal of it, enough to accumulate into a living style that is pristine and just a touch earthy. Other materials at work include Navona travertine and Venetian plaster.

The latter was put to very good use in constructing the home’s spiral staircase. The transitional fundamental is, in this case, a fine example of a functional essential that doubles as an art installation; windswept and snow white in appearance and suggesting the involute forms of nature, its soft lines and solid balustrade are enhanced by LED-illuminated white oak treads. The glassy build also features linear fireplaces, display wine storage, two kitchens, two living rooms, and two master suites.

The property’s two lots add .6 acres of Escondido Beach to Andreessen’s Paradise Cove compound. The grounds feature centenarian olive trees, palms, a lawn, and a garden living area with a 20-foot fireplace and marble fountain.

Andreessen’s net worth is $1.7 billion, according to Forbes.
