The engaging Spanish-style of Academy Award-winning actress Hilary Swank went to a new owner this winter. Swank put the 1928-built villa up for sale last autumn. She was hoping for $10.5 million, and fared quite well; the six-bedroom property closed at $10.25 million on the last day of February.
The 6,722 sq. ft. house is a treat. The master suite’s twin sets of arched French doors and balcony, scraped plank hardwood, and twin fireplaces — there’s one in the bathroom, too — are representative.
There’s substantial additional breadth of detail, though, and casement windows and French doors in various styles emerge, as well as a plentiful series of colorful hand-painted tilework examples, wrought iron, exposed timber, and vintage fixtures including Moroccan-style pendants and lantern sconces.
The estate’s grounds pack a lot into .36 acres but retain a languid feel. A slate pool area, fire pit, covered cabana with fireplace, and varied plantings — including fruit trees and vegetable gardens — fill out the property.
