Actress Emmy Rossum made short work of her longtime home in Los Angeles. The Shameless cast member — whose feature film roles include 2019’s Cold Pursuit — listed the 1964-built house just weeks ago at $5 million, and has already seen it into pending status. The home seems to have become redudant; Rossum recently paid $15 million for a much larger spread in Brentwood. She has owned the outgoing four-bedroom Hollywood Regency-style since 2006; she paid $2.1 million for it.
The secluded, 3,621 sq. ft. residence occupies a .36-acre lot in Beverly Hills Post Office. It abuts a steep hillside, and features a gated entrance — note the patina on the gates — that opens to a courtyard populated by planters containing citrus and flowering plants.
The home’s interiors are less glitzy than expected. Details include newer fold-away glass panel walls and original narrow-plank hardwood floors. Emerging from the rather dramatic tray ceiling in the dining room is an anemone-like midcentury-style pendant fixture.
Also drawing the eye is the alcove soaking tub in the master bath — a floor-to-ceiling glass pane merges it with an enclosed corner of the property exterior—and the office, which features a small private patio.
Surrounded by a retaining wall, the pool and slate sun deck reveal much about the degree of privacy afforded this secretive little nook of L.A.; in another corner of the property, a secret garden is positioned and does appear to be capable of supernaturally idyllic transitions.
