Larry David joins fellow Seinfeld alumnus Jerry Seinfeld in the real estate news this month. Jerry’s in the news with a closing; his Telluride getaway—absolutely worth a gander if you haven’t seen it before—found a new buyer at $14 million, bringing to a close a story that began with an initial listing over a decade ago.
As for Mr. David, he was in acquisition mode late last year. And the acquisition’s a beaut. According to Dirt, the comic actor, producer and writer spent $5.7 million on a French Normandy-style residence designed by local architect George Washington Smith.
The 2,858 square-footer dates to 1929. The decades that have elapsed since it went up have left it splendidly incorporated into the flora that surrounds it. Vines adorn its exterior, adding to its high-impact historical charm by enhancing its exterior details: stucco, soft blue trim around its casements and French doors, half-timbers, and steeply-pitched hipped shake roofline.
The interiors of the home build upon that first impression nicely. The house appears to have been many years between trips to the market, and there is a noticeable lack of vacuous high-dollar ostentation. Highlights include the living room, which features a mansard ceiling with exposed timbers, and the dining room, where a trio of casement windows relieves the intensity of the close-quarters ceiling beams. The kitchen is a French country-cottage delight, with green cabinetry and tile backsplash and an adjacent pantry.
The property exterior is sheltered by towering hedges, putting some teeth in the French countryside fantasy conceit. Lawns, landscaping walls, mature trees and brick patios complete the scene.
David’s current projects include critically acclaimed HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm.
