An unusual and nearly historic residential property in Connecticut was relisted on the open market this winter. Great Island, a compound with five residences on a 60.92-acre island in Long Island Sound, is crowned by an elegant, 1905-built manor. The estate is now priced at $100 million.
The 13,000 sq. ft. main house is far from the whole story of this remarkable property, however. A 19th-century farmhouse, a stone-clad residence, and a pair of waterfront cottages also call the island home, as well as an equestrian facility with an 18-stall stable, arenas, and paddocks. The estate also features riding trails and a polo field.
Among the finer features of the island — the largest private island to ever come up for sale on the East Coast, according to listing information — is a small and intimate cove with a beach. A deep water dock completes the turnkey lifestyle.
