Packing a 4.0L V8 sourced from AMG, Aston Martin’s newest DBX range model, the DBX707, is the fastest and most powerful production SUV. That’s a noisy way to begin the year, and a confident one too; the new Aston’s 607 horsepower and performance lines make it an instant figurehead for the automaker and a repository for Aston’s sales aspirations as the decade deepens.

The AWD DBX707’s body language is powerful. Ravenous-looking grilles are presently fashionable, and this one looks particularly businesslike; in back, a brake strip follows the contour of a prominent lip spoiler that is only bested by the roof spoiler that presides over it, while a large diffuser and twin tailpipes on either side give expression to the bumper. In profile, the DXB707 is windswept, with the fluid lines that suggest motion. Body panels can be had in carbon fiber, accentuating the SUV’s appearance.

Top speed clocks in at a record 193 mph, besting the former title-holder, the Bentayga Speed, by three miles per hour. The trip to 60 mph takes only 3.1 seconds, and that also appears to be a record among uber-luxe SUVs, according to official numbers. That translates to a whopping 1.2 seconds off the acceleration time of the regular DBX, which itself is no slouch.

Mechanical performance alterations for the DBX707 include a nine-speed wet-clutch transmission, an improved limited-slip differential and adaptive air suspension, and better steering. The upper-end DBX variant comes with 23-inch wheels with carbon-ceramic brakes outfitted with six-piston calipers.

Soft-close doors adorn the DBX707, making this Aston SUV overtly luxurious from the point of entry. The variant also features adjustable sport seats and a performance-oriented console controls. Upholstery and trim can be optioned in three pre-designed schemes, but Aston’s Q customization division is on hand for a more personal approach.

The DBX707 is a last-word luxury-performance SUV. It’s priced accordingly; in fact, at $235,086, it’s one of the priciest options on the market. Expect deliveries to begin as winter wanes.
