The recent real estate wheelings and dealings of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia di Rossi include the sale of the Montecito estate the couple purchased from Dennis Miller back in December of 2020 — the estate entered the duo’s portfolio at $49 million and departed at $55 million — and the $8.5 million purchase of the Rowan Residence, a 1964-build modern of note in Beverly Hills. They also bought back a charming Montecito ranch they apparently just couldn’t let go; reuniting with their former real estate love required an outlay of $14.3 million.
The latest page in the couple’s ongoing house-hunting, -renovating and –flipping adventures details another outbound property, according to Dirt: a 4,780 sq. ft. contemporary in Montecito, the pair’s preferred territory these days. The 2018-built contemporary features a mix of modern, Mediterranean and Japanese design elements, and carries a price tag of $13.9 million.
Details at work in the home include pivoting steel doors with sidelight windows, vaulted backlit ceilings, retractable glass walls and the odd barn door. The primary living area features glass on both sides, with access to patios front and back, and an accent wall that divides it from a secondary space currently purposed for billiards.
More interesting rooms include the kitchen, which features a peculiarly effective mix of flat black painted cabinetry, walls and ceilings, as well as herringbone-pattern floors and an island finished with a visually engaging natural stone waterfall cap; the master bath also gets high marks, mainly for its marble soaking tub/shower centerpiece, which is lit from above by a roof extension inset with clerestory windows. Specialty rooms include a spa.
Outside living areas include a fire pit, with a walking path meandering through the .72-acre property’s meditative botanical garden and the elder olive trees that populate the grounds.
