Retired hockey pro Alexei Yashin put his 3.26-acre, 9200 sq. ft. Long Island estate up for sale this winter. Yashin, who spent much of the 2000s playing for the New York Islanders, is asking $8.995 million for the 1998-built home.
With its stone exterior and grand entry, the six-bedroom house is every bit the distinguished manor from the outset. It begins with a two-story foyer fleshed out with ornamental columns, stone floors, and a curving staircase; the foyer adjoins a waiting room with a fireplace. The staircase is decorated with an ornate balustrade, which wraps around the second-floor gallery.
Amenities in the home include a lounge with a full-sized bar, kitchen with glossy black tile floors and a center island, wood-sheathed office with a fireplace, media room, solarium dayroom, sauna, and extravagant master with staggered tray ceiling, fireplace, and Roman-inspired bath. The prize goes to the upper level recreation space, a clad in pine plank and floored with parquet.
Outside, the considerable back lawn is interrupted with sports courts; a large terrace overlooks the goings-on, with the whole effectively shielded from prying eyes by a formidable border of privacy hedges.
