BMW brought a mobile movie theater to this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. The automaker arrived in Las Vegas with an iX decked out with a large retractable TV suitable for taking in a picture en route. The company calls the option ‘Theater Screen’.
The screen in question is an 8K ultra-wide measuring 31 inches; it is driven by Amazon Fire, and suitable for viewing — and, one presumes, gaming — in 32:9 once deployed from the headliner. An available ‘Art Mode’ can transition the screen’s purpose from viewing motion pictures to viewing masterpieces, or even just atmospheric visuals. Bowers and Wilkins provides the sound. No popcorn maker could be spotted in the console, though.
The cinematic iX was one of a pair that BMW brought to this year’s CES in the desert. The other features an exterior wrap that can color-shift.
