The Hancock Park estate listed by writer-producer Shonda Rhimes went to a new owner this winter. Rhimes, whose production credits include Netflix hit series Bridgerton, put the detail-rich and amenities-heavy 1923-built house up for sale last summer, asking $25 million. Following a price reduction, the property closed in the opening days of the year at $21 million.
The home’s more eye-catching touches include the period light fixtures, the milled and raw timber ceilings, the eight fireplaces, the honed-finish checkerboard marble in the foyer, the kitchen’s original narrow plank oak and tile floor, and the row of arched French doors inset with decorative wrought iron panels that open the double-height great room to the backyard and pool area. There are also skylights and carved pocketing doors, and crown molding.
The master bedroom features a dramatic vaulted ceiling and a fireplace. It’s one of seven bedrooms on the property, scattered across the three-level main house and guest house, with romantic gardens, a pool, a patio, and lawns also present and accounted for in the two-parcel acre of grounds.
Rhimes’ upcoming projects include Inventing Anna, with Julia Garner.
