Sport vehicle specialist Vanderhall Motor Works, a company that specializes in vehicles with three wheels, has added a fourth for its newest model. The company calls the off-road-only model the Brawley, and it’s the first full-sized sport vehicle in its lineup.
Vanderhall’s two preexisting models, the Venice and the Carmel, feature design language that recalls the open-air exhilaration of both a nimble European roadster and a dune buggy; they are powered by efficient little four-cylinder gas burners.
The Brawley is something of a departure. The model is a recreational ticket that can double as a day-to-day off-road workhorse. It’s also a fully-electric vehicle; its powertrain essentials include four independently controlled motors. Like the new Hummer electric, it can crab-walk; it can also pull off tank maneuvering. Range is estimated t 200 miles. And it apparently can go 10 years without maintenance.
The Brawley’s design language gives it a classical Jeep nose and a body that’s inspired by early SUVs and perhaps later Toyota off-roaders, but it features extreme L-shaped wheel wells to emphasize the terrain-blind aspects of the model…and accommodate the 35-inch tires. Its cabin is sealed and air-conditioned, with an air filter for dust. Vanderhall’s website informs that future options include ViDAR.
Vanderhall is currently taking reservations for the Brawley. Pricing starts at $34,950.
