Financier Brett Barakett sold his sylvan estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, this autumn for a pretty penny. The Tremblant Capital founder and CEO accepted an offer of $50 million on the nose for the property in the first days of December.
According to public records, Barakett picked up the postcard spot in 2005, paying $15.5 million, and custom-built the house. It was completed in 2008. The property features eight bedrooms and eleven baths across 14,304 sq. ft., and grounds that measure in at 2.46 acres.
The house is a stone-clad Georgian manor with a long beachside covered porch that was borrowed from a shingle-style. Interior spaces are opulent but tasteful; the design is measured and circumspect. There’s a fair amount of dark wood, with off-white walls and ceilings to prevent lugubriousness of atmosphere. Among the shared spaces, the kitchen gets top marks; buoyant and country-house relaxed, it is decked out with a long center island and features a glassy semi-rotunda dayroom that looks out over Long Island Sound.
The property’s coastal landscape is pure New England. Highlights of the grounds include an elevated pool with a fireplace, lawns, gardens, orchards, a sports court, a dock, and a landscaped forecourt.
