Musician Chris Martin purchased a six-bedroom, nine-bath contemporary home in Malibu in October of 2020, paying $12.5 million, and turned it around without much ado; just before the end of 2021, the Coldplay frontman accepted an offer of $14.4 million for the 2008-built mixed architectural.

The house contains five bedrooms and seven baths across its 5,338 sq. ft. Its exterior architecture is something of an East Coast kitchen sink, with Cape, Colonial, industrial and Dutch Colonial odds and ends in its many gables and flourishes, and its varied roofline. It sits on a 1.03-acre slice of Point Dume, and is protected by formidable natural barriers for privacy: towering trees and hedges.

The interiors of this house begin with a great room that is dominated by a massive fireplace accent wall; firewood storage bins stack four to a side flanking the modern fireplace, a grand statement of engineered rusticity. The double-height ceiling makes room for an extravagant upper-level gallery, where the upper shelf of a wall of built-ins can be accessed by a rail ladder.

The home’s inviting coziness emerges by way of plentiful tongue-in-groove, vaulted ceilings, Craftsman-inspired windows, a kitchen serving window, deep blue trim and accents, and a window seat or two, and it is the prominent feel in the home. The outdoor living area is a match for it, though, with a guest house and a full outdoor living area with a pool, wet bar, fireplace and BBQ.

Coldplay’s latest studio album, Music of the Spheres, was released this fall. The band is slated to embark on a world tour in support of the album in March of next year. Their previous tour, A Head Full of Dreams Tour, took place in 2016 and 2017 and grossed $523 million, making it the fifth highest-grossing concert tour in history.
