The famous Palm Desert estate of newsman and real estate developer Duane Hagadone appeared on the open market this autumn, about eight months after his passing. The striking house is priced at $49.5 million.
The 7.68 property is crowned by an architecturally adventurous house with an extraordinarily large footprint: its interiors measure in at 20,667 sq. ft. across two levels. It flows freely through interior and exterior sections, and uses water as a transitional enhancement.
The 2007-built house takes high modern as its inspiration. Lines are frequently emphatic, and just as frequently set up in the design in order to lay the foundation for their passage into the next in the progression. With its abrupt-yet-graceful curves and angles, and its continuing disruption of established line, the home manages to suggest a constant sense of motion, or flux, as one moves deeper into it. Its restlessness is engaging.
The property’s list of amenities is impressive; hardly surprising, considering Hagadone’s massive yacht is likely the only one in the world with an onboard golf course. Topping the list on the estate: an aquarium tunnel, a guest pavilion with four bedrooms, an imperious private office, and an owner’s suite with an outdoor lounge.
Hagadone is the founder of the Coeur d’Alene Resort and Golf Course.
