Nas Drops $3.5M on Calabasas Spread

Hip hop star Nas is the new owner of this Mediterranean-flavored Desert Contemporary in Calabasas. The rhyme-on-a-dime music-world fixture paid $3.5 million for the four-bedroom, six-bath house. The property was sold at auction.

The house is an interesting case study, with curvature that gives the exterior a windswept appearance, and eccentric lines that encourage a variety of window shapes and styles; there’s a touch of 1970s contemporary in the style. The glass that surrounds the entrance is particularly expressive.

Inside the home, the bright and open living style is accented with natural textures, limestone floors and knotty alder doors contributing. There’s quite a bit of ornament, with wrought iron in the foyer picked up in the staircase design and consecrating the transition to the second floor, as well as inlaid stone tile floors. The cerebral living room features a stone fireplace with a raised hearth and walls packed with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves; the swept ceiling lines and cushy window seat soften things up nicely.

Amenities in this house include a high-flying kitchen sporting a massive Viking fridge in brushed stainless, an office, a gym or studio, and a space purposed as a billiards room by the previous owner. Outside living areas include terraces, a patio with a bar, and a fairly convincing natural-look pool with a waterfall.

Nas recently lent his star power to BMW’s XM reveal at Art Basel in Miami a few days ago.

Nas has released 14 solo studio albums; five of them reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart. His only group album, released with The Firm, also topped the Billboard 200 chart. His most recent album, King’s Disease II, came out earlier this year.
