In the early days of fall, actress Renée Zellweger listed her large, private estate near Topanga State Park with a $6 million asking price. The property’s size — the grounds measure nearly ten acres — and the well-designed and sensitively-renovated early 2000s Spanish-style that is its anchor made for a potent marketing combination, and the little retreat didn’t have a long wait for a new owner. The home went into contract within a few days, ultimately selling for $400K above ask.
For the short term, Zellweger has decided to take a rental, according to The Daily Mail. The house she selected to call a temporary home is this sprawling, East Coast-inspired escape in Laguna Beach. The property occupies a little promontory nook on a dramatic rocky bluff south of town, and came at a monthly rental cost of $30K.
On its ocean side, the home breaks into three full levels, with a deck complex that meanders in multiple levels down to a set of stairs which ultimately carry the adventurous down a vertigo-inducing gradient to a private ocean overlook, where a pair of Adirondack chairs beckon lazy afternoons and sunset-watching.
The home’s interior living style is cottage, and really that’s what this house is: a very large cottage. More rustic elements of the interiors include pegged plank flooring and, in one room, a red brick fireplace. Up on street level, the property manages to pack in a lagoon-like pool with water jets amid very private and very lush landscaping, and a two-bed guest house too; the total accommodations count comes to five bedrooms and five baths across a combined 4,900 sq. ft. of indoor living space.
Zellweger’s upcoming projects include crime drama series The Thing About Pam, with Josh Duhamel and Judy Greer.
