What’s new from Lexus? According to a recent press release from the automaker, the 2022 LS 500. The company revised the popular luxury sedan for the upcoming model year, including features that encompass both sound and vision…and safety as well. And to improve the model’s competitiveness, they kept the sticker stable. The changes aren’t dramatic; the LS 500 was redesigned in 2018, and refreshed in 2021.

Safety updates for the 2022 LS 500 include the addition of Lexus’ Safety System+ 2.5, a suite that includes radar-enhanced Pre-Collision, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Pedestrian and Bicyclist Detection warnings. Lane Departure Alert and All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control are additional driver’s assistance features of the refreshed sedan.

Regarding performance, the upcoming LS 500’s 3.5L V6 will produce 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque, giving the RWD variation a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds; additionally, the Adaptive Variable Suspension has been updated. Available driving modes are the same as the outgoing model: Eco, Comfort, Normal, Custom, Sport S and Sport S+. An FSPORT Package is available for the 2022 LS 500, adding 20-inch allow wheels and upgrade tires.

On the creature comforts front, the new LS 500 receives a flashy Mark Levinson audio system as a standard feature. That’s a nice treat for audiophiles, and it includes a 23-speaker layout and a 2,400-watt surround amplifier.

The car’s interior visuals get a boost with optional trim in Haku, a metallurgical process that produces a delicately thin layer of foil that takes on the look of subtle, moonlight incandescence—as the press release poetically puts it, ‘moonlight reflecting on ocean waves’; Executive trim gets a buyer accents in Edo-Kiriko and pleated door upholstery.

The 2022 Lexus LS 500 will base sticker at $77,075, while the rear-wheel-drive LS 500 F Sport will start at $80,675.
