A rustic escape in Pasadena vanished from the open market courtesy of new owner Loren Bouchard. Bouchard — the creator of Bob’s Burgers, and producer of 1990s cult program Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist — paid a notch above the asking price for the 5,273 sq. ft. property, closing on the 1911-built home for an outlay of $5.3 million.
There are eight bedrooms and six baths across the little estate; the accommodations count includes the main house and carriage house, which are positioned at a fair remove from each other by virtue of the 1.57 acres of grounds occupied by the property.
It’s likely that the house hasn’t changed hands in many years; the interiors are occasionally in need of sprucing, and the cottagey décor is high-octane effusive, to say the least. More remarkable design elements include the fishnet-pattern paper adorning walls and ceiling in the kitchen, but overall the bohemian feel is enticing, and a few judicious changes (think earth tones and artisanal tile) could transform this home into a literate charmer if circumspection is substituted for vacuous spending.
The grounds are lush, with gardens and plantings representing decades of gardening enthusiasm. Views of the San Gabriel Mountains can be spotted in the distance, urging use of the hiking trails that meander beyond the property line.
Bouchard’s current projects include a pair of animated sitcoms: Central Park, with Kristen Bell and Kahryn Hahn, and The Great North, with Nick Offerman, Will Forte, Megan Mullally, and Alanis Morissette. There’s a Bob’s Burgers movie in the works as well.
