The 5,474 sq. ft., 1937-built Los Angeles home of Cheryl Hines sold recently after just a few weeks on the open market. The five-bedroom, .45-acre property was listed in the late summer with an asking price of $6.2 million and was scooped up in a hurry by comedian and television host Chelsea Handler for $5.9 million.

The home’s exterior is given a classic black trim-on-white scheme which matches the eccentricity of its architecture: Monterey Colonial can be spotted in the home’s design, farmhouse too. A passage leads from the motor court to the courtyard living area, which is floored with flagstone and features an outdoor kitchen and dining bar.

Original details come thick and fast in this house. The floor and subway tile in one bathroom can only be from the build era, with the pedestal sink, tub and fixtures just as convincing. There is a family room that features wall-to-ceiling bookshelves that are echoed in the unfinished ceiling, a rustic flourish that gives the living style a down-to-earth appeal.

Other details of note: the harlequin tile of the kitchen, and the original plank floor and white brick fireplace in the living room. In the rear of the property, an elevated pool and sunlounge hugs the hillside.

Hines’ current projects include Fox’s I Can See Your Voice.

Handler’s recent transactions in the L.A. market include the sale of her Bel Air home for $10.5 million. She’s on the road currently; her Vaccinated and Horny tour takes her to major stops around the U.S. and Canada.
