German firm Piech revealed a closer look at its GT model this fall. The all-electric performance touring car features a design that suggests a classical long-nosed British sports car. It is paired with a 603-horsepower, three-motor drivetrain and a battery pack that gives drivers 310 miles to play with between charges.
Regarding the battery pack, as it demands a word or two in and of itself: the Piech design is called ‘pouch cell’; currently state-of-the-art in EV energy storage, a pouch cell pack tips the scales at about half the weight of lithium-ion, and can store more energy to boot. The pouch cell design also improves the weight distribution of the pack, and in turn the performance of the Piech GT.
Fast charging time for the GT’s powertrain fundamental is good; eight minutes will be you back to 80%. All the more reason to look forward to the initial deliveries of the GT, which Pich tells us will occur in 2024.
