A very unique condo home in Palm Springs popped up on the open market this fall and apparently attracted immediate interest. The faithfully restored and maintained midcentury modern is priced at $850K and is already listed in contingent status.

Dressed up in full-blown whimsy for the shoot, the 1963-built home’s more interesting native details are a bit marginalized—there’s a lot of color, and the geometric and atomic-age preoccupations that flood the home take center stage. Furnishings and odds and ends represent years of work; the house is homage to Palm Springs’ age of Saturn.

Decorative lattice, sliding glass and a freestanding fireplace can be spotted as the 1,708 sq. ft. house progresses. There are three bedrooms and two baths in the single level layout, but the heart of any midcentury modern is the common area, and this one features triangular clerestories on every exterior wall, illuminating and liberating the house beautifully.

Other notable midcentury modern residences in Palm Springs include the Elvis honeymoon home, the Neutra-designed Kaufmann Desert House, Howard Hughes’ retreat, Walt Disney’s house, and the residences owned by Bob Hope in the desert community, the famed famed Lautner-designed architectural and his second property in the area.
