Land Rover unveiled a redesigned Range Rover for 2022. The smoother-over exterior for the upcoming model year is matched by its identity as a harbinger: while there’s no all-electric variant to grace the Range Rover lineup for 2022, hybrid and mild-hybrid PHEV versions will be available.
In the press release for the 2022 Range Rover, Land Rover also took the opportunity to definitively schedule an arrival for an all-electric version, which will be coming in 2024.
‘Reductive’ is the word used in the PR to describe the brushed-up Range Rover. Changes are limited to that stylistic ‘diminishment’, but there’s a lot of sly ornament going on underneath all that smoothness. Motion and water are neatly evoked in line and curvature, and the contrasting side vents that suggest the roots of luxury automotive design remain intact, although they’re rendered a bit subtler.
Interior options can veer into sustainability if desired; the textile developed by Danish firm Kvadrat can be featured — it’s been used in Range Rovers for a couple of years, and has even made its way into Bang & Olufsen and Artek products — but there’s trad luxury to be had as well, and bespoke options include a full range of trim and accent materials and finishes.
All-Wheel Steering, Terrain Response, noise-cancelling headrests and Pivi Pro enhance the performance and tech of the new Range Rover. The model will be available in long- or standard-wheelbase Range Rover, Autobiography, and Range Rover SV versions, and a First Edition will be offered at launch.
Pricing starts at $104,000 for the 3.0L I6 base model; the powertrain delivers up to 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. A V8 is available, bringing the powertrain fundamentals to 523 HP and 553 lb-ft—enough to give the 2022 Range Rover a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds.
