Submersible specialist U-Boat Worx has launched a new high-speed model. The new underwater explorer is called the Super Sub, and the original commission, already sold, is slated for delivery in 2023.
U-Boat Worx claims the Super Sub is outfitted with the best propulsion system of any submersible in its class—four lithium ion-battery-powered thrusters that collectively produce 60 kW. The quick underwater vehicle makes for a dramatic underwater touring rig, as it is capable of 30-degree dives, and can reach 300 meters of depth.
The model began as a custom commission, the first in the company’s custom submarine program. The client needed a sub capable of keeping pace with larger marine animals, and U-Boat Worx obliged with a model that can travel underwater at 8 knots—about twice as fast as a dolphin’s cruising speed.
The Super Sub carries three including its pilot, with each seat outfitted with a five-point harness. It weighs in at a little less than 20,000 pounds.
U-Boat Worx sees the Super Sub as the prototypical model of a new lineup. No pricing information has been released.
