The Land Rover Discovery lineup will have a new top-level variant for the 2023 model year.

Land Rover calls the new Discovery the Metropolitan Edition, and it is slated to come standard with a number of features that are optional for other Discovery variants. But the edition-specific cosmetics theme and special badging that one would expect to find on an upsell version of a mid-level model is absent, and the Metropolitan looks quite tasteful with its lack of special-ed bling.

What the automaker reveals is that the Metropolitan Edition Discovery uses an R-Dynamic HSE Discovery as a foundation. The AWD variant will be outfitted with a hybrid powertrain that uses a 3.0L I6 gas-burner backed up with a 48-volt electric boost for a total of 355 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic gearbox sends the power to the 22-inch wheels. The Metropolitan is designed to tow up to 8,200 pounds, and comes with Advanced Tow Assist for easier hauling of an RV.

A look at the variant reveals an accent color scheme of silver and gray, with interior accents including titanium mesh, which gives the variant an industrial-chic overtone. A sound system sourced from English audio firm Meridian comes standard, a nice treat for the audiophile buyer, but by 2023 all Discovery models will, too.

The 2023 Land Rover Discovery Metropolitan Edition base stickers at $76,650.
