In the late winter of 2020, actor Anne Hathaway listed her penthouse pied-a-terre in Manhattan on the open market. Hathaway was asking $3.5 million for the property, which she’d picked up in 2016 for $2.5 million. The West Side charmer went to a new owner earlier this year.
The co-op unit is part of a converted mansion that was designed in the Neo-Georgian style and completed in 1904. As a pied-a-terre it’s an ideal residence—its amenities include a landscaped terrace with views, its details provide a striking sense of authenticity that suggests the golden age of the city, and renovations have introduced sympathetic features like custom lighting and cabinetry.
The shared living area features 18-foot ceilings, and merges living and dining rooms, while the kitchen is illuminated by a roof light. There are two bedrooms and two baths in the unit’s 1,200 sq. ft., although one of the bedrooms was converted to a library during Hathaway’s ownership tenure. Hardwood floors, planting balconies, strikingly renovated bathrooms and a private elevator complete a sketch of this refined and unpretentious property.
Hathaway’s upcoming projects include period drama film Armageddon Time, with Anthony Hopkins, and Apple+ drama miniseries WeCrashed, with Jared Leto and America Ferrara.
