The California retreat of Senator Dianne Feinstein saw a price snip this month. The Lake Tahoe estate appeared on the open market in the early summer of this year with a $41 million ask. It is now priced at $36 million.

The 278 feet of white sand beach deeded with the property ranks high on the list of amenities. Also included is a 172-foot pier with a boat life and a quartet of buoys. A languid staircase of wood and river stone ambles gently down to the waterside from the grounds.

The estate’s accommodations are distributed across three separate houses. There are 10, 343 sq. ft. of interiors, seven bedrooms and seven baths throughout. There’s lodge, craftsman and alpine-inspired architecture, and the rustic feel that follows in kind—lots of wood here, in fact the individual spaces are universally clad in it, lending a relaxed, escapist wilderness feel to the proceedings.

Outside living areas include a pavilion with a flagstone terrace overlooking the blue waters of the lake; a fire feature is the centerpiece of the stony plain.
