Keeping up the E-momentum to close out the summer of 2021, Porsche introduced the world to the Misson R. The idea is at this point something of a hybrid, as it appears to combine both street-legal exotic and track car into one concept…or concept study, as the automaker puts it in the Mission R press release.
Porsche sees the Mission R as a peek into the future of a one-make series car, powered by electricity of course. The motors and cells are new, and provide a 1,073-hp foundation that can take the Mission R from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 186 MPH.
Like other contemporary EVs and concepts, the Mission R is the whole enchilada, packing a fully electric powertrain and, wherever possible, sustainable materials as well. In this case, the materials in question include the plastic reinforced with natural fiber — a flax-based product — that is used for the monocoque driver’s module and other components.
The Mission R’s interior design begins with a steering wheel with an inset display that keeps the driver informed during competition. A monitor displays the exterior camera views; the car also features interior cameras for transmission in action.
As previous concept studies have yielded new models — the Taycan Cross Turismo among them — it’s entirely possible that a production car based on the Mission R will appear in the not-to-distant future.
