Engaged couple Paris Hilton and Carter Reum purchased a waterfront getaway in Malibu this summer. The pair closed on the property very recently, and spent $8.4 million to claim it.
A modern beach cottage, the house features the requisite glass-heavy water-side architecture and the resulting sun-drenched living spaces and upstairs master. It dates to 1955, and although heavily renovated and revised over the decades it still looks the part: simple, direct midcentury lines, a lack of adornment, and an overall sense of optimism.
The laid-back residence contains three bedrooms and three baths in its 2,968 sq. ft. of interiors. The first-floor common area is wide open, and uncluttered, with grid lighting, tile floors, a few floating glass shelves, and a modern-style fireplace with a raised hearth. The kitchen is immensely appealing—it’s not large or dressy, but its space and the way it is incorporated into the layout of the shared spaces make it a genuinely inviting corner of the first floor.
Upstairs, the master suite gets most of the attention—another modern-style wood-burner with a raised hearth, and sliding glass opening onto a lounge-ready balcony. A spa, a soaking tub and an outdoor shower complete a look at this down-to-earth Malibu beachfront that wisely lets the beach do the talking.
She may be old money, but Hilton is a business mogul in her own right; her perfume line alone has grossed over $2.5 billion to date. Her recent television projects include Netflix’s Cooking With Paris. Her podcast, This Is Paris, debuted earlier this year.
Reum is the founder of venture capital firm M13. The company closed its third fund earlier this year to the tune of $275 million.
