In the spring of this year, actor Jonah Hill went house hunting in Malibu. The two-time Academy Award nominee ended his excursion when he shelled out $9 million for a 3,653 sculpted desert modern in the Colony community.
Just a few months later, Hill sold the property in Santa Monica he purchased in the late summer of 2019. Public records do not reveal a listing, so the sale was conducted quietly. The selling price has been recorded as $7.2 million; Hill’s purchase price for the 3,102 sq. ft. home, according to public records, was $6.77 million.
The four-bedroom home dates to 1950, and features architecture inspired by the Monterey Colonial style. The façade features a full-width balcony; in back, the property is exceedingly private and green, with a pool, pool house, studio and guest house arranged amid the lawns and plantings.
Inside the main home, a color scheme of warm off-white and very dark grey accents brings visual contrast into the living style without undue drama, and hand-painted tile and brick pop up here and there, lending color and an element of the artisanal.
Exceptional spaces include the galley kitchen—which transitions to an attached dayroom with a pizza oven—and the living room, which boasts exposed timber and French doors that open the room broadly onto the patio.
Hill’s upcoming films include Netflix’s star-studded Don’t Look Up, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep.
