Aston Martin’s Valkyrie, the daring F1-inspired hybrid that is both present-tense figurehead and indicator of Aston’s movement toward electric powertrains—has been revealed in open-top guise. This summer, Aston removed the roof from the dramatic and uber-engineered street-legal performance car, and brought it to Monterey to show off.

Since the Valkyrie Coupe appeared in production form in 2019, Aston produced two other variations on the theme. The first to appear was the AMR Pro, a lethally beautiful track-only monster designed to fulfill the potential of the road-legal version; it’s the extremist’s option, and one that allowed Red Bull Advanced Technologies to indulge entirely.

The Spider is, of course, the more recreation-oriented version of the Valkyrie—if the blueprint for recreation includes a six-point harness. The open-top Valkyrie’s 1140 brake horsepower rating transfers from the Coupe, and the powertrain is of course anchored by the same V12. Its Venturi tunnels are the key to its downforce generation, and its tech details include a camera system. Changes from the Coupe version include adjustments to the active aerodynamics and active chassis systems. Driven open, it can reach a top speed of 205 MPH.

Aston plans to build roughly half the number of examples of the Spider as the Coupe. Just 85 will be produced.
