Gloria Estefan received a pleasant surprise this summer when her estate in Miami sold considerably over last year’s ask.
The legendary Miami-area musician and her husband — fellow musician, Miami Sound Machine bandleader, and producer, Emilio Estefan — purchased the home in 1993 for $1.8 million. It is one of two homes they own on Star Island. They listed it initially in 2015 with a $40 million ask. The listing price had dropped to $27.9 million by last June, but was raised to $35 million around the end of the year. A hot real estate market resulted in the property closing at ask this summer.
The six-bedroom, 1940-built, Caribbean Plantation-inspired home sits on a 1.34-acre lot. The interior living style is heavy on bright white, with mid-toned oak plank adding texture and substance to what would otherwise be a very ethereal feel. Arched doorways pop up here and there, including in the master bedroom, where they accent a couple of sets of louvered closet doors.
The two level great room gets the blue ribbon for scale, but the galley kitchen is both atmospheric and down-to-earth, with a backlit vaulted tray ceiling finished with plank, a tile floor, a custom chandelier with tapered shades, and a traditional slotted dish drying rack. The formal dining room is secluded, and separated from the rest of the living area with a service door inset with a porthole window.
The home’s sunroom is a gem, and gives a preview of the outdoor living area, where a pool and various living areas are enhanced by tropical landscaping. A dock and a guest house round out the amenities and accommodations; the latter brings the bedroom/bath count to six and nine, respectively, and the total square footage to 7,988.
Gloria Estefan has sold over 75 million records worldwide. Her latest studio album is last year’s Brazil305.
