With a base sticker of $54,900, the 2022 Macan lineup, which is due in dealerships in the first quarter of next year, continues to be a force to be reckoned with—it offers the many buyers of compact SUVs and crossovers a lot for their money, including the unmistakable look of a Porsche.
No surprise, then, that highway visuals are given top billing. Porsche calls special attention to the revised nose, LED headlamps, and extension of overall paint color to the front trim, and the sporty diffuser in back. Cosmetic and performance options include seven new rims, with sizing now starting at 19 inches. For now, the lineup breaks down as Macan, Macan S and Macan GTS. All will feature Porsche’s 7-speed PDK, and all will come with AWD. The lineup’s interior is redesigned for a look that is less busy, and more sleek.
The Macan’s engine is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 261 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque for 2022. The S comes equipped with the 2021 GTS’s 2.9L twin-turbo six that makes 375 HP and 383 lb.-ft., and comes with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system as standard. The top-tier GTS is also equipped with the 2.9L six, but gets 434 HP and 406 lb.-ft. of torque out of it; it can reach a top speed of 169 mph, and comes with Surface Coated Brakes and adaptive air suspension. Available performance suites include Sport Chrono Package and, for the GTS, a special Sport Package.
Interior updates include haptic touch input and a more streamlined look.
Porsche unfortunately makes no mention of the Macan EV, which it had initially indicated would see production at the end of 2022. The all-electric model will be built upon the PPE platform, which will also host Audi models, including the A6 e-tron, which Audi introduced in concept form at the Shanghai Auto Show this spring.
