Land Rover’s new-generation Defender will get a special edition variant for the 2022 model year. The automaker calls it the Trophy Edition, and it comes decked out with a cosmetic suite of details that sketch the adventurous spirit of the model’s DNA.

‘Spirit of adventure’ is a phrase that is used in the company’s press release on the limited-edition model, actually, and in a text box to boot. Credit where credit is due. Although, under the circumstances, such phrasing could be considered more than a little predictable.

Expressing adventurous spirit is accomplished, in this case, with a roof rack, a two-tone paint job of black ‘exterior pack’ accents and Heritage Yellow. The front doors are emblazoned with the Land Rover badge and ‘Trophy’.  The foundation is the Defender 110 P400 X-Dynamic SE, a rough-and-ready variation on what has become a standby of upscale bedroom communities, but is outfitted with the company’s ‘Off-Road Pack’ and ‘Advanced Off-Road Capability Pack’.

In short, this Trophy packs a lot of off-road cred. To drive home the point, purchasers will be given the opportunity of proving their mettle as they test their new ride’s chops: every Trophy Edition Defender is sold with a two-person invite to compete in a Trophy Competition at the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina this October.

The Trophy Edition starts at $91,350. Only 220 examples will make it stateside.
