A renovated mid-1960s 8,520 sq. ft. contemporary in Beverly Hills, now in the rearview of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, exited the open market this summer. The couple purchased the striking gray architectural statement back in 2016, paying $14.1 million for it, and sold it last month for $16.808 million.

The property initially appeared for sale under the duo’s ownership in the summer of 2020, asking a whisker under $24 million, following the couple’s purchase of a newly built modern-style in the affluent city for $17.5 million. That home features an atmospheric, Spartan simplicity — with a veneer of high-end material flash, of course — that may be contrasted with the lush and moody modernism of the home in question.

Renovations to the outgoing seven-bed residence include floors and fixtures, but original details remain, and some are peculiarly baroque—the milled plaster of the dining room ceiling is a good example. Earthy dark-stained plank, poured concrete, and plenty of glass are other features of this sometimes surprising house.

The property’s outdoor living area includes a patio, a step-down hardwood deck, a pool, a covered dining area with a kitchen, and lawns.

The home’s previous owners include Rihanna.

Teigen and Legend recently lent their voices to computer-animated film The Mitchells vs. the Machines.
