Retired soccer star David Beckham’s son Brooklyn was in the real estate news this summer when he and his wife, actress Nicola Peltz, purchased a newly built residence in Beverly Hills. Meanwhile, on another continent, David’s most recent photo shoot with partner Maserati found the athlete checking out the eminently versatile MC20, which will enter the market for the 2022 model year, at the Autodromo di Modena.
David Beckham joined team Maserati this spring, taking on the role of brand ambassador as the Italian automaker begins the process of updating and adding a lifestyle dimension to the brand. The MC20 is Maserati’s flagship, a performance car that is a multi-hyphenate performer; it will be available with both ICE and EV powertrains, and in both hardtop and convertible body styles.
The MC20’s design language contains phrases from Maserati history—the headlamps and grille are especially evocative, and the soft lines are a tonic to the angular drama of more brash exotics—and in that way it is both a looking ahead and a referential or even brand-mythologizing form. Its design includes dihedral doors, and ICE-version buyers will get a car with a very efficient V6 capable of delivering up to 621 horsepower, and both features make it a cutting edge contemporary sports car.
Those as smitten with the MC20’s form and potential as Beckham elder can have a look at one at a dealership late this year, or early next. The car’s base sticker is expected to be €187,230, or about $223K at current exchange rates.
