Oil tycoon and lover of America’s pastime Bobby Patton is selling the W.C. Fields estate. This 1920-built Mediterranean Revival in Los Angeles surfaced on the open market recently for $15 million. The property from the Golden Age of Hollywood was last available for sale in 2013, when it sold for $7 million.
The mansion’s architecture is embellished with a huge amount of carved stone and wood, inside and out, giving it a beaux arts flavor. Original mahogany paneling, intricate woodwork co-opted from a monastery in Spain, sculpted ceilings, steel-framed doors, original light fixtures and stained glass are among the finer details of this home.
The interior spaces include a step-up dining room with multiple sets of French doors, a breezy living room that opens to a tile patio, and a rounded solarium living area. Numbering among the outdoor spaces is a rooftop deck; multiple terraces and other living spaces meander amid gardens, with the requisite swimming pool hidden amid the landscaping.
