Filmmaker James Cameron recently found a buyer for this Los Angeles-area escape. The property, which has been titled The Retreat Compound, is one of the two homes that comprise Cameron’s estate in Malibu.
The Academy Award-winning director listed both houses as a single opportunity last September, with a $25 million asking price; the 4-acre spot returned this spring without a price cut. But Cameron wasn’t averse to selling the houses piecemeal, and this month the smaller home closed off-market for $8.2 million, according to Dirt. A not-bad outcome all things considered; Cameron paid $4.4 million for the property in 2003.
The Spanish-style home is likely the former home of Hollywood acting legend George C. Scott. Its interiors are unpretentious, with clay tile and oak floors making the shared living spaces very warm, and multiple sets of French doors opening them to the patio and pool area. The house’s master bedroom features a fireplace — one of at least three in the home — and two sets of French doors. The main house and guest house combined measure in at about 9,000 sq. ft.
The other residence on the estate brings the total indoor living area to about 16,000 sq. ft. There are eleven bedrooms and thirteen baths in all, as well as separate pools and spas, and a guard house.
Cameron’s upcoming projects include Avatar 2 and Avatar 3.
