A property in Aspen, Colorado, closed recently at $72.5 million, setting a record for the jet-set alpine resort town in the process. The buyer was green-minded waste management-industry billionaire Patrick Dogivi, a former hockey player and native Canadian.

The sprawling house is something of an alpine lodge, mansion style. There is a guest or caretaker’s house on the grounds; between the two structures, the total interior square footage is 22,405 sq. ft. or more, and the total accommodations to 11 bedrooms and 17 baths.

The house features wood frame, steel and stone construction. Its interiors begin with a pivoting door entry. In the shared spaces, all the glass comes into play, bringing the dramatic beauty of the location into the home, and adding a modern feel to the living style. Stone walls and posts, hardwood floors and wood ceilings voice the rustic. There are Craftsman design elements here and there.

Other details include a pair of wet bars, and a towering floor-to-ceiling stone accent wall in the great room that divides the cavernous space and adds definition and focus. Amenities include a screening room, and a master bedroom with a fireplace accent wall that reprises the fixture in the great room. The home is partially heated by radiant and solar systems.

The property’s grounds amount to 4.5 acres of lawns and woods, with a private pond, a deck and patio, and a swimming pool along the way. It may include frontage on the Roaring Fork River.

Dogivi’s net worth is reportedly around $1 billion.
