The new owner of this 1950-built bohemian-spirited Southern California rustic is actor Channing Tatum. It’s a beguiling property — if played to extremes by a recent brush-up — and the Iron Horse producer found himself charmed out of $5.55 million when he signed at the closing last month.

The house features a stone first floor, with weathered plank, a simple brick chimney and a great deal of glass giving the impression of an artist’s retreat productive when Mandeville Canyon was a secluded hideaway in Brentwood. The .91-acre lot manages to sustain the build period, though, with edge-of-wild landscaping just shy of riotously green, a meandering stone path, and a lagoon-style pool driving the point home.

The interiors of the house are self-consciously rustic, and that’s just fine; in principle, the veneer is just as relevant as that of a stolid, material-centric spec build in Encino, and the neighborhood makes the stylistic embellishments of its recent revision more relevant still. Floors appear to be original, with a tasteful refinish, and post-and-beam timber has acquired a lovely patina. Apart from a slick stainless commercial-grade stove, the kitchen could be largely original as well. The living room and master bedroom come off very well, with soaring glass opening the spaces to the green of the grounds.

The property includes guest accommodations. A detached guest house—positioned at a neighborly remove—adds a pair of bedrooms and a bath to the property’s 5-bed, 3-bath total, and a sports court rounds out the lifestyle.
