The Los Angeles estate of late media billionaire Sumner Redstone entered the open market this spring and then departed it with astonishing rapidity. The Beverly Park property listed in the second half of April with a $27.9 million ask, and closed recently for $27 million. According to public records, it last sold in the early summer of 2002, when it changed hands for $14.5 million.
The 1997-built mansion — which is situated in a hilly, private nook in the Post Office section — spans 15,355 sq. ft., and was Redstone’s residence up until his death last summer. Listing information puts the bedroom count at five, which seems light until one views the interiors, which favor entertainment space and wealth of amenities over accommodations.
The interiors hint at the history in Mediterranean architecture, with groin vaulting popping up with ornamental columns alongside more contemporary design features like tray ceilings, grid lighting and the many sets of floor-to-ceiling glass doors that open the home to the outdoor living area. The indoor pool — there are two on the property, one outside — is designed to echo a Roman bath. A fitness room, game room, wine cellar with tasting room and a library are other amenities.
The estate’s grounds measure 1.89 acres. A tennis court, a loggia and lawns, gardens and birdhouses take the stage by turns as the property progresses.
