Back in the high summer of 2018, spirits company heiress Hilda Bacardi sold this massive Coral Gables mansion to singer and actor Marc Anthony. The Cocoplum property is a plum indeed: a 1.33 acre lot rimmed by mature trees, and 12 bedrooms and at least 14 baths in a total of 20,546 sq. ft. of interior living space.
Anthony, in turn, listed the property in November of last year, asking $27 million. The hotter-than-hot Florida luxury real-estate market likely helped the big house find a new owner for $22.42 million, about three million over and above Anthony’s purchase price, this spring.
The waterfront property features 480 feet of frontage on the Coral Gables Waterway. The main house and guest house are connected by a pergola-capped arbor, and an enclosed, gated motor court stands between them and is accessible by a porte-cochere.
The main house is lavish in scale, and quite tasteful in execution. It is designed as two two-level structures that are connected by a hallway-lounge with built-in window seats. Highlights include a master suite with a stone bath boasting a raised soaking tub for a centerpiece, and the living room. A colonnade links the shared living spaces.
Outside, a pool and patio and a grand loggia catch the eye, but the treat may be the adjacent courtyard. It’s a large space, private and elegantly proportioned, rimmed with a grass-bordered stone path, and centered by a spa with a hand-painted tile surround.
Anthony’s most recent studio album release is 2019’s Opus. His upcoming film projects include In the Heights.
