The palatial Thousand Oaks estate of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky has found a buyer. Gretzky listed the property last autumn, hanging a $22.9 million price tag on the Richard Landry-designed residential trophy. But an offer of $17.6 million did the trick.

Gretzky’s ownership of the property has been occasional. He had it custom built in 2002, but sold it to baseball player Lenny Dykstra in 2007, for $18.5 million. In 2018, he bought it back for $13.5 million.

The Colonial Revival architecture is part of what makes this home a visual heavyweight; symmetry, red brick, ornamental windows, rounded balconies, French doors, a porte-cochere, and in back a massive plantation-inspired roof extension sheltering upper and lower porches; this last visual extravagance is supported by half a dozen columns.

The seven-acre lot offers abundant room for a leisurely layout of guest and recreation amenities. Included on the list are a tennis court, a pool, a dining area serviced by a grill station and wood-burning pizza oven, a guest house, and maid’s quarters. Landscaping favors lawns and gardens.

Inside the 13,276 sq. ft. home, a fitness room, screening room and game room are standout spaces. The kitchen features a huge island with a marble top, and details include ebony-finished floors and custom millwork. There are six bedrooms and eight baths in the house, with the master suite boasting a private sitting room.
