Sylvester Stallone’s postmodern mansion in Beverly Hills is back for another screening on the open market. The property was initially listed by Sly at the beginning of the winter, when it asked $110 million. A trim to the price brings it down to eight figures: $85 million.
The house was designed by Richard Landry, and its façade is characteristically remarkable when contrasted with the interior living spaces. It appears to be inspired by Italian architecture.
The interiors, on the other hand, are varied; kitschy, cool, and opulent, with a wealth of visuals that includes a fireplace with a statuary mantel, a slick contemporary kitchen with a double-island layout and a backlit, inverted tray ceiling, and an entertainment room with a full-length bar.
A glass-enclosed rotunda dayroom opens to a patio fire lounge, but one of many outdoor living areas abutting or designed into this home; in back, the upper floor is an array of balconies and terraces. The home’s office features a sculpted ceiling and built-in shelving. Throughout the home, white oak, mid-toned oak and stone tile pop up as flooring materials.
The 3.5-acre hilltop lot allows for imperious canyon views that border on the spectacular; the grounds themselves meander across a table-like expanse, much of it covered by closely-clipped lawn dotted with towering trees. Statues and artworks, a putting green, and a large pool help fill the space, but there’s still enough runway expanse to give a sensation of impending flight; the sense of continuation with the greater landscape is intoxicating.
Stallone seems to have taken a liking to Florida, where he acquired a waterfront home last year to the tune of $35.4 million. He also got himself a Corvette.
Stallone’s upcoming projects include The Suicide Squad, with Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, and John Cena.
