Pitcher Jon Lester—formerly of the Chicago Cubs, now of the Washington Nationals—put his Victorian-inspired 7,000 sq. ft. Windy City residence on the open market this month for $5.995 million.
The five-bed, six-bath house features a mansard roof and stone, with columns marking the entry and a carved second-floor pediment adding a little decorative flourish to the exterior.
The interiors are tasteful—expressed in space, traditional design elements, hardwood, and understated tones. The kitchen’s a good example—dove gray cabinetry with top backlighting, a little stainless, and what appears to be soapstone for island caps and countertops. Backlit tray ceilings keep the proceedings firmly in this century.
Lester picked up the lot next door for an outdoor living space, and fit a sports court into it and an outdoor kitchen too. A roof deck and a 5,000 sq. ft. yard are additional outdoor living spaces.
