This year’s Shanghai Auto Show revealed a treat from Korean automaker Genesis: the company’s 2022 model year lineup will include a fully-electric luxury sedan. The EV is a version of the automaker’s popular upper-end model, and is called the Electrified G80.
The G80 keeps getting prettier with each new iteration, and the 2022 Electrified G80 features a lot of grace and just enough muscle in its lines to make a snappy first impression. The front end appears to be a little elongated over the 2021 G80, and the nose is narrower and a little smarter. Hiding in the grille is the charge door.
The Electrified G80 can quick-charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes; Genesis also thoughtfully included a feature called V2L—vehicle to load—which turns the car into a four-wheeled generator that can pump out 3.6kW of power. The car’s range on a full charge is 427 kilometers (265 miles).
The Electrified G80’s twin electric motors deliver up to 365 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The model can reach 62 mph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds.
The interior of the eG80 is dressed in a two-tone color scheme, and recycled materials are used for the cabin—including naturally dyed leather. And, to keep noise down while operating the car, Genesis outfitted the Electrified G80 with ANC-R, or active noise control.
