A Los Angeles-area home designed by atomic age architect John Lautner surfaced on the open market this spring. The Deutsch House, as it is known, is currently asking $2.76 million.
The house is located in Hollywood Hills. It was completed in 1954, and contains two bedrooms and three baths across two levels and 1,720 sq. ft. The influences of his teacher Frank Lloyd Wright are strongly expressed. They include a wing-like roof that resembles Wright’s Boomer Cottage, a Phoenix-area residence completed in 1953.
Inside, too, evidence of the master may be spotted: wood paneling—and lots of it—as well as abundant masonry, including a striking fireplace in the shared living area. Storage generally riffs on the nautical, linking the ship-like design of the exterior with the interior living style.
Outside, a large second-floor deck amplifies the city views of the hilltop location. Outdoor steps, bench seating, and pathways complete a look at this very beautiful and singular property.
