Tiedemann Castle, the New York property currently owned by Yankees legend Derek Jeter, made a return to the open market this year, and just in time for the green season. The property’s asking price, which stood around $14.75 million back in 2018, has been trimmed by $2 million, leaving it at $12.75 million.
The property was a project for Jeter, who purchased it in fixer-upper shape in 2003. But the story isn’t confined to that of a professional sports celebrity searching for a unique summer estate for his family; in fact, the property has associations to Jeter’s family that extend back several decades.
The main house measures about 12,500 sq. ft. It’s a stone-and-timber build, and features a tower among its more unusual architectural features. A grand double-door entry, stone floors, wood paneling and exposed ceilings begin the interiors, which culminate in an upper-floor family and entertainment room with a curving, window-laden wall, triangular clerestories, and a wet bar that appears to be made from reclaimed timber, likely from the original build.
The guest house on the four-acre property brings the total bedroom count to at least six, and adds a larger entertainment space slash game room and a lighthouse besides. There are several decks overlooking the lake that abuts the property, as well as a zero-edge pool and lots of room to roam.
Jeter won the World Series five times with the New York Yankees. He is the chief executive and a part owner of the Miami Marlins.
